The Process Of Pocket Installation

With insert or pocket installation, the old window is removed from the opening and the new replacement is simply inserted into the same opening. There is no work done to the sills and frame as is the case with standard or full frame installation. As with any install, the replacement unit must be first leveled and shimmed.

Once that is done, the replacement unit can be secured into place with accompanying screws into predrilled holes. The installer will then use traditional insulation or low-expanding foam (especially if the gap is significant) around the edges of the window to insulate and seal the opening. The edges on the interior and exterior are then caulked and sealed. That is really all that's involved with pocket installation and thus the price of the install is at the mow end at $50 to $90 per opening.
